We are a small team of Engineers with more than 30 years of experience in software applications. Leading the team is Patrick Serex, CEO A pioneer in Image Editing software (well before Photoshop !) (35 years of experience in software development) realized there was a need for visually appealing and informative OBD scanners that let you know about the “technical health” of your car with a simple and attractive user interface.
Chkobd’s vision is to provide End-Users with a simple and attractive software solution to read, display and store car computer system data, using standard OBD Bluetooth readers readily available in the market today for cars made after 1996.
We have listed Adapters that have been tested with our application on the Adapters page. The list shows whether they have been tested on iOS Android platforms or both.
ChkOBD is available through Apple iOS (iPhones and iPads versions) and Google Playstore for Android (phones and tablets) versions.
The basic version is free of charge, only premium features have in app purchases”.
We are a software company. Our software does require a compatible OBD Bluetooth Adapter to pass the codes to the ChkODB app. The ChkOBD software is compatible with a large selection of OBD adapters already present in the market.
We have listed Adapters that have been tested with our application on the Adapters page. The list shows wheter they have been tested on iOS Android platforms or both.
If you already own an adapter, feel free to download our free app to find out if it’s compatible with our application. If you find it doesn’t work, please let us know and we will try to evaluate why and see if we can make it compatible in future releases. And, if it does work, even better, let us know so we can update the Adapters list.

The ChkOBD Team is comprised of a core team of automotive industry specialists and our founder Patrick Serex who is a serial entrepreneur.
Our principal – Patrick Serex, CEO, is a tech industry pioneer in Image Editing software (well before Photoshop !). He founded ChkOBD to create a visually appealing and informative OBD scanner app that lets you know about the “technical health” of your car with a simple and attractive user interface and brought his 35 years of experience developing graphical imaging technologies and software development to develop a visually appealing and informative user interface.
Previously Mr. Serex founded Exaphoto which leveraged imaging technologies to create very fast loading image galleries. The result is stunningly pixel perfect images that load very quickly to an album presentation.
In 1995, Patrick Serex founded FotoWire (later: Silverwire) in Switzerland, the company that invented “e-photofinishing” and provided automated printing infrastructure to independent photo labs. In 1999 he moved to California to establish FotoWire in the USA. Hewlett Packard acquired Silverwire in 2006.
It’s interesting to note that back in 1995, FotoWire pioneered the business model that came to be known as Software as a Service.
In 1983, Mr. Serex founded Image-In, a pioneer in photo editing software, and served as CEO for 12 years. In 1994, Hyundai acquired the company. Image-in was the first Image editing software entirely based on Windows (before Photoshop). It included the capability to convert bitmap images into vector graphics (Raster to Vector) as well as bitmap to text (Optical Character Recognition). The OCR, (entirely developed in house) was based on Neural Networks technology. Another pioneering effort in the early stages of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Mr. Serex got his Electronics Engineering degree in 1974 from the Geneva Engineering College (EIG). Then he attended Business and Administration courses for two years and half at the University of Geneva.
